'''PERACOD (Programme to promote [[Rural Electrification|rural electrification]] and a sustainable supply of domestic fuel)''', a programme co-funded by the German and Dutch Governments, aims to contribute towards improving rural communities’ access to modern energy services by sustainable means. It focuses on renewable energy technologies (notably [[Portal:Solar|solar power systems]]), [[Rural Electrification|rural electrification]] and sustainable use of [[Portal:Solid Biomass|biomass as fuel]]. PERACOD provides technical support for sustainable energy management, including policy propositions, strategic advising, training and support services.<br/>

= Subsectors Identification<br/> =

As one of the early steps of the productive use promotion component of GIZ’s PERACOD efforts in [[Senegal Energy Situation|Senegal]], ten agricultural subsectors identified as key to the rural economy in the selected programme areas were singled out for rapid assessment (cereals, oil seeds, rice, vegetables, fruits, forest products, fisheries, dairy products, handicrafts production, and services). A brief profile was prepared for each of these subsectors to identify what processes and activities offer interesting entry points for uptake of productive use.<br/>

<u>These profiles also provide relevant details on:</u>

*the types of localities where productive use potentials are found;
*the types of SMEs that would be best prepared to take up productive use;
*the electrical equipment needed;
*the production capacities of that equipment;
*indications of the initial investment needed and annual operating costs;
*available support structures (governmental and NGOs) for the subsector;
*relevant training opportunities.<br/>
